There's an ocean of "best product" pages online, and most are thin lists thrown together to collect a commission. We built Gear & Hearth to be the opposite: every guide is the recommendation we'd give a friend who asked, "just tell me which one to buy."
How we choose what to recommend
- Hands-on where we can. When we own or can test a product, we say so and tell you what living with it is actually like — the annoyances, not just the specs.
- We read the reviews you don't have time to. For everything else, we work through hundreds of verified owner reviews, manufacturer specs, and expert sources to find the consensus — and the recurring complaints.
- We compare on the things that matter. Our picks are chosen against real-world criteria for each category, not just whatever ranks highest or pays most.
- We'd rather recommend nothing than something bad. If a category has no clear winner, we'll say that too.
